Kansas City Area School Board Votes To Sue Juul

A Kansas City area school district is planning to sue an e-cigarette manufacturer.

The Olathe school board voted unanimously Friday to authorize a lawsuit against Juul [[ jewel ]] and its retailers and distributors on the argument that using the products poses a health risk to students. District officials call vaping an epidemic and add that the district is taking the lead in protecting students and future leaders.

Olathe school officials say the lawsuit will have no financial cost to the school district and will be filed as soon as possible. According to officials, the youngest student caught vaping on school grounds was a fourth-grader. Any student found vaping or smoking a cigarette is given out-of-school suspension.

Meanwhile, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is linking black market vaping devices to most of the vaping-related illnesses in two states. There are 800 cases nationwide with at least 13 deaths. Officials in Wisconsin and Illinois interviewed 86 patients and found most said they used illicit products containing THC, the psychoactive part of marijuana.
