High pollen counts have violent criminals reaching for the tissue box instead of their weapons.
That’s according to a study published in the Journal of Health Economics. It found that on days where the pollen count is high, there is a four-percent reduction in violent crime. The study's authors say that when there is a lot of pollen in the air, all people, including criminals are more likely to stay home.
They also say that pollen makes people tired. Reportedly fatigue can, among other things, diminish a person's anger and can also reduce the satisfaction someone feels when they commit a crime.
The researchers say, however, that allergies shouldn’t be used to reduce crime.
