The Pope Is Putting Celibacy Under The Microscope

Celibacy is the focus of a special meeting at the Vatican.

Pope Francis opened the meeting of Amazon region Catholic Church leaders yesterday and on the table is the traditional practice of celibacy by Roman Catholic priests and other Churchmen in that region. A possible exception or exemption from the celibacy rule will be considered.

The idea is to allow older, married men to become ordained as priests so rural areas have priests. The Catholic Church has already made certain special exceptions to the requirement for priestly celibacy. In general it’s limited to those ministers who already were ordained in other churches and hop onboard the Catholic church.

While talking about it is fine, ultimately, it is the Pope who has the final say.
