High-level trade talks between the U.S. and China are set to begin Thursday.
The talks come amid the ongoing trade war that continues to rattle world financial markets. The Chinese government has already said their delegation won't be offering any commitments on industrial policy reforms or government subsidies, two issues the U.S. has long wanted Beijing to address. The Chinese delegation aims to narrow the focus.
Some analysts say taking the issues off the table is China trying to strengthen its hand in the midst of a White House dealing with possible impeachment. The White House says that take is wrong and a miscalculation by China.
