Elizabeth Warren Claim She Was Fired From School Job Contradicts Records

On the campaign trail, Elizabeth Warren often speaks of being “shown the door” by a New Jersey school, where she worked, because she was pregnant.

Now, Riverdale Board of Education meeting records show that may not be true. Warren often talks about being fired because she was visibly pregnant back in 1971. Minutes from the board of education meeting dated April 21, 1971, show that in fact, she was voted on unanimously to her second year contract. Two months later, meeting minutes show they accepted her resignation “with regret.”

Warren uses the story to show her leap from teach to law and also to illustrate the struggles women have at work. In her version, the principal of the school fires her for being visibly pregnant.

The presidential candidate’s office has not responded to a comment about the documents.
