China is reportedly rejecting President Trump's request to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Last week, Trump said publicly said China and Ukraine should look into the Bidens.
China foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang tells the “South China Morning Post” (the main English-language newspaper in Hong Kong), quote – “We have no intention of intervening in the domestic affairs of the United States. Our position is consistent and clear.”
- Trump pressed Ukraine's president about the Bidens during a July phone call, which is at the heart of the House impeachment inquiry. At the time, Trump was withholding nearly 400-million-dollars in planned aid to Ukraine. The funds were subsequently released. But there was a call with China in June – amidst trade war negotiations. It has not been revealed how or if that request affected discussions.
