Officials have arrested two associates of President Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani on charges of conspiracy and campaign finance violations. Briefing reporters in New York, U.S. Attorney Jeff Berman said the two men sought foreign influence and foreign political donations. He also noted that the investigation is continuing.
It been alleged that Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas were involved in Giuliani's efforts to get dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden in Ukraine. Berman noted "two co-defendants" in the federal indictment but he did not identify them. The FBI's Bill Sweeny said the case is about "corrupt behavior and deliberate lawbreaking."
As for Fruman and Parnas, Berman noted that they were arrested at Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia – with one-way tickets to a foreign destination, but did not say where. Giuliani hasn't commented on the case.
- There's also reference to a U.S. congressman in the indictment, "Congressman-1," who has reportedly been identified as former Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions.
- In the wake of the arrests, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is calling on Giuliani to testify under oath."Giuliani has been involved up to his neck in this entire mess," the senator offered during a press conference. "He has an obligation to testify under oath so he can be asked questions so this can come to light."
