DOJ Opens Criminal Investigation Into How The Russia Probe Started

The Justice Department is opening a criminal investigation into the probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

US Attorney John Durham had been reviewing the Russia investigation, but making it a criminal investigation gives Durham greater authority. He can now subpoena witnesses and records, impanel a grand jury and file criminal charges. The move was expected.

Attorney General William Barr has had suspicions that some of the officials handling the case may have “acted improperly.” Barr has been hands on during the investigation, including flying oversees to handle questioning.
