The General Motors strike by the United Autoworkers union is over after 40 days.
GM factories are again pumping out vehicles and parts following ratification by the United Auto Workers of a new four-year contract. Full production is getting back on track after 57-percent of UAW members approved the new deal.
GM lost an estimated two-billion dollars after the longest automotive strike in decades, and the UAW is now about to start new contract talks with Ford and then Fiat Chrysler. Both of those contracts were extended until after the GM deal was taken care of.
GM CEO Mary Barra says the deal recognizes the company’s employees for “the important contributions they make to the overall success of the company, with a strong wage and benefit package and additional investment and job growth in our U.S. operations.”
