Wisconsin Man Charged With Hate Crime In Acid Attack

A Wisconsin man is being charged with a hate crime for throwing acid on a U.S. citizen born in Peru.

A criminal complaint says 61-year-old Clifton Blackwell s facing a first-degree count of reckless injury. He could get up to 35 years in prison for the alleged hate crime. Last week, Blackwell allegedly threw acid in the face of Mahud Villalaz, who suffered second-degree burns.

Villalaz, who's been a U.S. citizen since 2013, told police his attacker accused him of invading the U.S. He admits to yelling back at Blackwell, calling him a racist (expletive).
