(Kingston, RI)--University of Rhode Island researchers say the state's conditions are excellent for growing the world's most expensive spice.Saffron is mostly harvested out of Iran and isn't commonly grown in the U.S.A professor who is overseeing a study to test how well it grows in Rhode Island says until the last couple of years, no one had tried to grow it in Southern New England's moist, rich soils.
