White Georgia Teen Charged With Plot To Attack Black Church

Police in Gainesville, Georgia say they have proof that a 16-year-old white teenager was plotting an attack on a local Black church. It’s alleged that the young woman, who has not been named due to her age, had a notebook with plans to murder parishioners at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Apparently, the girl's classmates contacted police last week about the plot – and she’s now been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder. As for what set her off, that depends whom you ask.

According to Bishop Reginald Jackson, the presiding prelate of the Sixth Episcopal Districtof the AME Church, she was inspired by the man who was convicted of killing nine black worshipers at the Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, four years ago. As the state doesn’t have hate crime charges on the books, Bishop Jackson and others are asking she be charged as an adult. The young woman is being held at a regional youth detention center.
