We’re Going To Have A Quarter With A Bat On It

Coin collectors are about to go batty. A new quarter comes out next month with a bat on it.

Actually, it's two bats - a mother and baby hanging upside down. It represents the National Park of American Samoa. The design is intended to promote awareness of the fruit bat species being threatened. These “flying foxes” are the only U.S. park that’s home to the creatures.

The quarters are part of the "America the Beautiful" set that kicked off in 2010. This year's quarters are for American Samoa, Connecticut, U.S. Virgin Islands, Vermont, and Kansas. The program ends next year with Alabama.
