(Middletown, RI)--Allegations of under-staffing at the Middletown Fire Department came out after a New Year's Eve fire in the town; several months later, staffing levels are set to increase.The Newport Daily News reports a new three-year contract was ratified at Monday's Town Council meeting.Town Council President Robert Sylvia said the contract guarantees there will be additional firefighter staffing immediately as the result of a fire department re-organization, and that five new firefighters would be hired; four of the hires will be through anticipated federal funding.
