Gov. Raimondo Issues "Stay at Home" Order for RI

Here is a summary of Governor Gina Raimondo's Saturday briefing, which included significant developments regarding coronavirus.

  • There are 36 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday, bringing the state total to 239
  • 29 cases are hospitalized
  • Rhode Island's first two COVID-19 deaths have been recorded. Both patients, one in their 70's and one in their 80's had underlying health issues.

  • Governor Raimondo says approximately 50% of people are complying with social distancing and is imploring residents who are not complying to "knock it off."
  • The goal of testing 1,000 persons per day should be accomplished by Thursday 4/2, as the state ramps up its testing systems.
  • State parks and beaches remain open, but enforcement of social distancing will be ramped up.
