Rhode Island saw 55 new cases of coronavirus between Saturday and Sunday, bringing the state total to 294 cases. Governor Gina Raimondo made that announcement on Sunday afternoon, also announcing that the virus death toll in Rhode Island had climbed to three victims. Raimondo used her Sunday briefing a a platform to again remind Rhode Islanders that the limit on social gatherings was now five people, effective on Saturday. She estimates that only 50 to 60 % of people are obeying social distancing guidelines, and cited examples of gatherings that had exceeded the prescribed limits, including take out restaurants in Narragansett.
The Governor also announced that she is suspending all child care licenses until April 4th, thereby closing such businesses for a week. A 90 day extension has been applied to all DMV expiration dates.
