(Providence, RI)--Charges are being announced by the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office against former state representative-elect Laufton Ascencao [[ uh-SEN-SAY-oh ]].The AG's office says Ascencao embezzled over sixteen-thousand dollars from the Rhode Island chapter of the Sierra Club while he was the treasurer, then used some of the money to pay for campaign expenses which he did not report.Ascencao, who was elected to serve the 68th House District covering Bristol and Warren, is due to be arraigned in Providence Superior Court in July.
