(Providence, RI)--Governor Gina Raimondo revealed details of a plan for rapid-testing for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday with the goal of testing ten-thousand people daily by July and twenty-thousand by September.Raimondo said those testing numbers are what will be needed in order for schools and colleges to open in the fall. The governor says the plan involves expanding the number of testing sites and mobile testing capacity in Rhode Island. The plan calls for an outbreak response team on the ground quickly after multiple cases are discovered in high-density areas like congregate care settings and workplaces. The state also says an early warning system will be created through the testing of groups of asymptomatic individuals.
