LATEST RI COVID-19 Data: 21 New Fatalities. 143 new cases.

The RI Department of Health announced 143 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, along with 21 new fatalities. At her daily briefing, Governor Gina Raimondo said that these numbers are consistent with the data needed in order to allow the Phase 2 Reopening of the state starting on June 1st.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state announced new regulations for the opening of gyms and fitness centers beginning on Monday. New guidelines call for 6 feet of distancing between most gym attendees, but 14 feet between people engaged in vigorous exercise like cardio training. According to RI Health Dept. Director Nicole Alexander-Scott, the 14 foot distance is based on science which shows that respiratory vapor droplets can travel up to 13 feet when someone is breathing heavy.
