(Providence, RI)--Momentum is building to remove the "Plantations" part of the full name of the state of Rhode Island.State Senator Harold Metts introduced a resolution at the State House on Wednesday to have voters approve a constitutional change.While the "Plantations" part of the Rhode Island and Providence Plantations was not meant as a direct reference to slavery, some say the word still carries a negative connotation as part of a nationwide reckoning on race relations.
