Following the lead of neighboring states Connecticut and Massachusetts, Rhode Island has announced the timeline for COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to open up to all adult residents. At his weekly COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, Governor Dan McKee announced that all adults in Rhode Island can begin to sign up for vaccinations on April 19th. Thomas McCarthy, executive director of the RI Department of Health COVID Response team said that by the end of March, over 160,000 vaccine doses will be available each week.
According to McCarthy, large state-run vaccination sites are slated to open within the next two weeks in Woonsocket and in South County, with additional community-supported sites opening soon in Westerly, North Providence, and another in northwest RI. Vaccines will also be available in coming weeks at select locations of Stop & Shop, Walmart, CVS and Walgreen's stores.
