Bill Signed To Incentivize Unemployed RI'ers To Return To Work

(Providence, RI) -- A number of Republican-led U.S. states are ending the three-hundred-dollar unemployment supplement from the American Rescue Plan which was intended to last until September. In Democratic Rhode Island, a different approach is being taken to address the same problem those red states say they have: a labor shortage caused by too unemployment recipients staying on the sidelines as businesses re-open out of the pandemic. Governor Dan McKee signed a bill Friday which will allow workers to earn up to 150% of their unemployment amount and continue earning state benefits, which will in turn allow them to continue receiving the federal boost. McKee said Rhode Island is taking an innovative approach to the workforce challenge.
