(Bristol, RI) -- The superintendent of the Bristol-Warren Regional School District is announcing that the first day of school will not fall on the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. Dr. Jonathan Brice issued a directive on Monday which overrules a vote from the school committee to start the school year on September 7th. Instead, it will start on the 8th, as the superintendent says the school calendar must not only meet Rhode Island Department of Education requirements but also support religious and culturally-significant dates that are recognized by the community.
