New Providence Teacher Contract Ratified

(Providence, RI) -- Public schoolteachers in Providence have approved a new contract. The contract became a flashpoint in the ongoing effort to raise the Providence School District out of the position it was in when Johns Hopkins University released a highly-critical assessment in 2019, leading to a state takeover. Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza tells WPRI-TV the three-year agreement only contains "marginal" changes. He previously said anything short of a transformational contract would sell students short.
