(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is objecting to proposed healthcare insurance rate increases in the state. The A.G., which has filed petitions with the state Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner, says Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island has requested a three-point-one-percent increase in the individual market, and Neighborhood Health Plan of RI has requested an 8.5% hike. Neronha says higher rates are not affordable for the roughly 200,000 people who would be impacted. A decision on the rate increase requests is expected from state regulators by the end of this month.
