Rhode Island just missed its first direct impact from a hurricane in 30 years on Sunday. The National Weather Service says Tropical Storm Henri made landfall near Westerly yesterday afternoon, causing significant flooding on Main Street and Atlantic Avenue. The weather service also reported flooding in Narragansett, Newport and North Kingstown. The top-measured wind gust was 70 miles per hour at Point Judith. Governor Dan McKee asked Rhode Islanders to shelter in place during yesterday's storm. The Newport, Jamestown and Mount Hope bridges were all closed for several hours.
