The Rhode Island State Association of Firefighters is challenging Governor Dan McKee's COVID-19 vaccination mandate for healthcare workers. The mandate, which covers EMTs, takes effect October 1st. Those that don't get vaccinated are at-risk of losing their jobs. The firefighter association is seeking an injunction in Superior Court, arguing the mandate violates their collective bargaining rights and the state constitution. Meantime, in Massachusetts a Superior Court Judge has sided with the Governor in his vaccine mandate for state employees. The State Troopers had gone to court to challenge whether the issue should have been dealt with in collective bargaining. The Judge did not agree. 80 percent of State Troopers are in fact vaccinated.
