A special election was held Tuesday in Providence for a vacant Rhode Island Senate seat.
Sam Zurier won over a field of four other Democrats in the race for the District 3 seat.
That district covers the East Side and Fox Point.
Zurier will face Republican candidate Alex Cannon in the November general election.
They are running to replace Gayle Goldin, who resigned this past summer to take a position in the Biden Administration..
