Governor: Vote Next Week On Pandemic Spending Package

Governor Dan McKee and legislative leaders say the finance committees of the House and Senate will vote next week on use of federal pandemic relief funds. The governor has proposed spending an initial ten-percent of the one-point-one-billion-dollars pledged to Rhode Island. Portions of 119-million-dollars would be allocated for children and families, small businesses, affordable housing and for the tourism and hospitality industry.

“Today, we are making a crucial investment in Rhode Island’s recovery,” said Governor McKee. “Our Administration is committed to delivering support for home- and community-based direct care workers and ensuring that children with developmental needs receive the services they need. I also thank the Speaker and the Senate President for their partnership and their commitment to act on our RI Rebounds plan which will provide much-needed relief for children, families, housing, and small businesses. This is an important step – we must keep going.”

Under the federal program - the money has to be spent within the state. It can't be put in the bank.
