Rhode Island Sees No Current Variant Cases

As of this moment, there have been no reported cases of the Omicron Variant of the Coronavirus. There has been one case so far in Connecticut and another in Massachusetts.

Although there is much concern- about the potential spread of variants, the head of the CDC, Dr Rochelle Walensky says she does not see a need for a federal mask mandate to combat that spread.

However, the doctor concedes that there may be some local mandate on a city by city basis. It all depends what the virus is doing in a particular location.

In Massachusetts, a woman in her 20's, from Middlesex County has contracted the variant. She is fully vaccinated. But she had travelled outside of the state.

In Connecticut, a man in his 60's from Hartford County has contracted the virus. According to the Governor's office, a family member was in New York City two weeks ago to attend the Anime NYC convention at the Javits Center. Governor Lamont says that family member tested positive one day after returning home. A Minnesota man had tested positive for the variant after attending that same convention.

The man is experiencing slight symptoms.
