Partial Mask Mandate Returns To State

Today is the start of a new executive order on mask-wearing by Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Mask-wearing is being required at indoor establishments that host 250 people or more.

That includes places like the Dunkin' Donuts Center and the state casinos.

Smaller venues can let customers in mask-free, but they will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

The order calls for state inspectors to visit businesses for enforcement, and that potential penalties, including fines, have not yet been set.

The new mandate is in effect for 30 days as Rhode Island is seeing its biggest virus surge in a year.
Governor McKee says he will revisit the issue then.
