Friars Get Win After G-Town Covid Forfeit

Tonight's men's basketball game between URI and Brown University is canceled. It's due to COVID-19 protocols after several URI players and staff tested positive. Bryant University's game against Eastern Kentucky tonight is also canceled because of coronavirus concerns.

The Big East Conference meantime announced the forfeit by the Georgetown Basketball team in its game that was set for tonight against Providence College. The Big East says the forfeit is a standard practice according to its policy.

"BIG EAST policy states that if a conference game cannot be played on its originally scheduled date due to an insufficient number of available players (including as a result of COVID), that team shall be deemed to have forfeited with a loss assigned to that team," according to a statement.

Georgetown, URI and Bryant all reported several players and coaches have been effected by the virus. None of the institutions have released the names of any of the people involved.
