2022 is not only a new year. But it also means some new laws for the Ocean State.
One of the new laws aims to curb the use of plastic straws. Restaurants and bars will only be able to provide the straws if a customer specifically asks for one. Businesses that violate the rule face fines.
Another new law bars healthcare companies from charging more than 40 dollars co-pay for a 30-day insulin supply for diabetes treatment.
Also starting in 2022, the Rhode Island Legislature is giving up its power to designate who can perform a marriage ceremony besides judges or religious personnel.
That power will transfer to the governor's office.
