State Senate President Contracts Covid Despite Full Vaccination

Rhode Island Senate President Dominick Ruggerio has tested positive for COVID-19.

The result showed up as part of a weekly testing routine for state senators and staffers. Ruggerio, who is vaccinated and boosted, is asymptomatic. State Senator Hanna Gallo is presiding over sessions while he is in quarantine.

Meantime, State officials say that the state is headed in the right direction when it comes to Covid cases, but the state is not out of the woods yet.

Rhode Island reported thirteen new coronavirus deaths on Tuesday. The pandemic death toll in the Ocean State increased to three-thousand-329. There were about nine-hundred new virus cases in yesterday's daily report.
