Bill Would Provide Wage Protections For Janitors, Security Guards

A bill is being introduced in the General Assembly to provide wage protections for janitorial and security workers in Rhode Island.

It's sponsors include Providence state Representatives Grace Diaz and David Morales and Pawtucket Senator Sandra Cano.

“Janitors and security guards are essential workers who perform tough jobs, but they are often not treated with the decency, respect and pay they deserve. Just like other essential workers, they’ve worked throughout the pandemic, risking their own safety and that of their families, and generally for low wages. They deserve better wages and protections, because we all rely on them,” said Representative Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence), who is the prime sponsor of the House bill.

The bill has the support of the Service Employees International Union local.
