Congressman Calls Synagogue Eviction Proceeding "Shameful"

Congressman David Cicilline calls a New York congregation's effort to evict the congregation from Rhode Island's historic Touro Synagogue in Newport "shameful and egregious."

Built in 1763, it's the oldest synagogue in the United States.

In a statement, the Touro congregation says the eviction filing in federal court is unprecedented

It also alleges the New York congregation is using its legal status to punish the Newport congregation for functioning independently.
