Required School Masking Ends March 4th

The requirement to show proof of vaccination or wear a mask for indoor spaces in Rhode Island will end this Friday. The mask mandate inside schools will be lifted on March 4th. Governor Dan McKee said the state has made considerable progress against coronavirus, and is in a much better place than during the Omicron surge in early January.

“Thanks to Rhode Islanders stepping up to do the right thing, together we’ve made considerable progress against COVID-19 and the winter surge,” said Governor McKee. “Based on our decreasing case and hospitalization numbers, our team at the Department of Health feels confident in our plan to safely shift masking guidance for both schools and public settings as we move into an endemic management phase of the virus.”

Local communities now are able to require masking if they desire.
