Gov: Residents Did The Right Thing, Masking- Vaccinations

An improving coronavirus picture is leading Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee to lift mask-wearing mandates. McKee's administration says the school mask mandate will end on March 4th, after which time local districts will be allowed to make their own decisions. An executive order for Rhode Islanders to wear masks while patronizing indoor businesses or show proof of COVID vaccination is being lifted on Friday.

Under the Governor's latest directive, local communities could install their own mask mandates. In Providence, with a school system that is roughly a third fully vaccinated, Education Commissioner Angelica Infante Green says a return masking is not being considered yet. But she didn't rule it out either.

“With cases rapidly declining and continued efforts to improve vaccination rates across the state, we’re optimistic about the direction we’re heading,” said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “Over the next month, we’ll be working closely with districts to help them review the data, connect with the Department of Health, and create guidance that works for their school communities.”

Masking is still recommended for immuno compromised individuals and for those who are not up to date on their COVID-19 vaccination.
