No Charges Filed Against Rhode Island DMV Director

The attorney general's office says the director of the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles is not facing charges in connection with a prostitution sting. In June of last year, Cranston police and federal agents shut down six businesses that were allegedly fronts for prostitution. Walter "Bud" Craddock is the owner of one of the buildings involved. The AG's office says it was not presented with sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that Craddock had knowledge of the criminal commercial sexual activity on his property.

According to the Attorney General's final report: "Putting all this together, regarding the critical issue of whether Mr. Craddock had knowledge of the criminal commercial sexual activity occurring at his building at 1732 Broad Street, there is ample smoke. Applying, however, the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard to these facts, which we as prosecutors must, there is insufficient evidence to establish fire"

The Governor has yet to comment.
