Providence Settles Pawtucket Man's Claims

The city of Providence has reached a settlement with a Pawtucket man who alleged that police officers failed to protect him.

The Providence Journal reports the sum going to Matthew Depina is thirty-thousand dollars.

Depina was with his cousin, who was a member of a Pawtucket gang, for proceedings at the Licht Judicial Complex in 2017.

They got into a confrontation with rival gang members who were ordered by security to leave, but they then live-streamed threatening commentary from the courthouse vestibule.

Depina was shot outside the courthouse minutes later.

Providence officials have not commented on the settlement.
