State Officials Issue Pet Food Recall

The Rhode Island Department of Health is advising the public about a pet food recall.

Freshpet is recalling one lot of the dog food, branded: Select Fresh From the Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe, a four-and-a-half-pound bag, with the sell-by date of October 29th, 2022.

State officials say, "Dogs with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some dogs will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy dogs can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your dog has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian."

The product, which was sold in other states including the rest of New England, is potentially contaminated with salmonella.
