Full House Set To Vote On Immigrant Drivers' License Bill

The Rhode Island General Assembly is moving along legislation that would give illegal immigrants de facto driver's licenses.

The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday voted 9-to-2 in favor of a measure that would grant driving privilege permits for the illegal immigrants.

Residents need to have filed a Rhode Island tax return or be a dependent of someone who has filed one, plus provide two documents showing they live in the state.

The measure is similar to a bill that was made law in Massachusetts over the objections of the Governor, Charlie Baker.

A vote from the full RI House of Representatives is scheduled for this afternoon sometime after 4pm.
