Standoff Ends Peacefully In North Providence

The Standoff in North Providence has ended peacefully.

Police were called Wednesday afternoon for a man who had fired a shot. When police arrived, they found the man, identified as 56-year-old Gino Rotondo barricaded himself in the Stephanie Drive home.

Rotondo had an AR 15 style rifle inside.

Police opened up a line of communication with the man, who at one time went silent for a period of time. He told police that he “needed some time to figure things out.”

Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero told reporters that the incident began when a person allegedly assaulted Rotondo’s wife. Rotondo asked that man to come to his home. When he arrived at the scene, that’s when a shot was fired --and the suspect, who is not being identified fled.

Rotondo told officers that he would come out peacefully.

Eventually he did after several dramatic hours of waiting.

Rotondo was taken to the hospital for observation.

There were no injuries reported from the incident.

The shelter in place order for the neighborhood has been lifted.
