Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza not “scooting” the issue, announcing that the city is increasing electric bikes and scooters throughout the city. It is an expansion made possible with the help of the city’s partners, Bird, Spin and Veo.
The expansion of the so called “micro mobility market” is designed to move more people around the city without the additional use of gas-powered vehicles.
“The expansion of micro mobility options in Providence gives our residents and visitors another safe and sustainable way to explore the city,” said Mayor Jorge O. Elorza. “Expanding the availability of e-bikes and e-scooters in Providence allows riders to pick a vehicle that best fits their journey while simultaneously improving transit efficiency in our city. Working with Bird, Spin and Veo, we are improving mobility in Providence while also providing benefits for low-income riders.”
To use an e-bike or scooter:
1. Download the Spin, Bird, and/or Veo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Use the company’s app to find and unlock a bike or scooter near you.
3. Park and relock your bike or scooter when a ride is complete. When parking, individuals are reminded to leave a clear path wide enough for people in wheelchairs and with strollers to get by.
The charges range from an initial dollar to unlock the vehicles and then a per minute charge that ranges from 25 to 39 cents per minute, depending on the company vehicle that is used.
