Governor Pleased With Child Advocate's Work

There are no plans to replace the Rhode Island Child Advocate, who is currently sick and out of the office.

Governor Dan McKee sought to dispel the notion on Thursday after the Rhode Island Bar Association emailed members on behalf of the governor's office seeking members of a committee to search for a new advocate.

The Governor said he grew concerned after reading some media accounts. He said he did not want either Griffith or her family to think that they were thinking about eliminating her position.

The Governor said he is pleased with the work that Griffith and the department is doing.

The committee is required by statute after a child advocate completes a five-year term.

Jennifer Griffith has held the position since 2016.
