A federal judge in Vermont is ordering Nathan Carman to remain in custody while awaiting trial for killing his mother at sea.
The judge says there is a very real risk of flight.
Prosecutors also believe Carman killed his wealthy grandfather in Connecticut, with both homicides designed to maximize his inheritance.
Carman has been deemed a flight risk.
He is facing a mandatory life sentence if convicted of killing his mother during a 2016 fishing trip in the Atlantic Ocean off Rhode Island.
