Judge Rejects Part Of Case Against Providence Police Officer

A charge has been dropped against a Providence police officer accused of committing an assault at an abortion rally this summer.

The state judge handling the bench trial against Jeann Lugo removed the count of disorderly conduct on Tuesday.

Lugo is still charged with simple assault for allegedly punching Jennifer Rourke, a Democratic candidate for the State Senate 29th District.

Lugo withdrew as a candidate for the same district on the Republican side after the June incident outside of the State House.

Although the Judge has dismissed the disorderly conduct aspect of the case he has not ruled on the totality of the case.
