Governors Final Set After Close Primary Fight

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee is one step closer to re-election.

McKee narrowly won the Democratic primary election on Tuesday over former CVS executive Helena Foulkes and RI Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea.

McKee will face Ashley Kalus who won yesterday's Republican primary, in November.

The race was a lot closer than anyone had expected.

While McKee took almost 33 percent of the vote, Foulkes - who was a political unknown until she declared for the office took about 30 percent of the electorate.

The former Cumberland mayor is seeking his first full term in office after being elevated from lieutenant governor when Gina Raimondo left the governor's office to join the Biden administration in 2021.
