Department Of Education: Alternative Program Allegations Were Groundless

The Rhode Island Department of Education says claims of graduation inflation at a Providence school are unfounded.

Several members of the school board called for an investigation into the A-Venture alternative learning program at Central High School.

It was alleged that A-Venture allowed some students to acquire as many as three years' worth of credits in two months or less.

The state has concluded the allegations were unfounded, and that participating students properly earned their credits.

RIDE is pointing to issues with the grade-recording system, and has pledged to make changes.
