Smithfield To Spray For Spotted Lanternfly

We are seeing more and more cases of the "spotted lanternfly" pop up not only in the state but all throughout New England.

The insect eats a variety of leafy plants and has been a pain for many farmers and homeowners a like.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is planning to spray insecticide in Smithfield to fight the invasive spotted lanternfly.

The DEM says pockets of infestation have been found along Douglas Pike.

The application is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, weather-permitting.
